Various methods of content analysis are described with special emphasis to keyword analysis. The paper is based on an analytical study of 97 keywords extracted from titles and abstracts of 70 research articles from INSPEC, taking ten from each year starting from 2000 to 2006, in decreasing order of relevance, on Fermi Liquid, which is a specific subject under Condensed Matter Physics. The keywords beginning with the letters ‗A‘ to ‗F‘ only are considered for this study. The keywords are indexed to critically examine its physical structure that is composed of three fundamental kernels, viz. key phrase, modulator and qualifier. The key phrase reflects the central concept, which is usually post-coordinated by the modulator to amend the central concept in accordance with the relevant context. The qualifier comes after the modulator to describe the particular state of the central concept and/or amended concept. The keywords are further classified in 36 classes on the basis of the 10 parameters, of which 4 parameters are intrinsic, i.e. associativeness, chronological appearance, frequency of occurrence and category; and remaining 6 parameters are extrinsic, i.e. Clarity of meaning, type of meaning, scope of meaning, level of perception, mode of creation and area of occurrence. The number of classes under 4 intrinsic parameters is 16, while the same under 6 extrinsic parameters are 20. A new taxonomy of keywords has been proposed here that will help to analyze research-trend of a subject and also identify potential research-areas under its scope

This paper highlights a new interpretation of dynamic state of subject from the viewpoint of Ranganathan’s theory.Ranganathan introduced the following three concepts in order to describe the state of subject, viz., continuous infinite universe, spiral model of subject development and idea plane. These three concepts together depict four dimensions of a subject startingfrom its birth. The name given to these three concepts together is Ranganathan’s three-tier description of subject

This paper is based on an analytical study of 335 keywords extracted from titles and abstracts of 70 research articles, taking ten from each year starting from 2000 to 2006, in decreasing order of relevance, on the subject Fermi Liquid, which is a specific subject under the broad area of Condensed Matter Physics. The research articles have been collected from the bibliographic database of INSPEC. The keywords are indexed to critically examine its physical structure that is composed of three fundamental kernels, viz. keyphrase, modulator and qualifier. All research articles begin with a title. Most include an abstract. Several include keywords. All three of these features describe an article’s content in details. The title sends an instant reflection of the central theme of the research topic. The abstract summarizes the content. The keywords indicate the core and allied fields of concern. The researchers and indexers quickly and easily locate particular articles within their areas of interest with the aid of keywords. Keywords hold prime importance in abstracting and indexing services. Keywords play major role in information retrieval function. This paper is based on analysis of 14,221 keywords collected from 2,526 research articles published in three journals, viz. Chaos, Physics of plasmas and Low temperature physics since 2006 to 2012. Out of all these author-assigned keywords, the number of distinct bits obtained was 2571. After collection, the lexically close keywords are identified that form clusters. Several such clusters are found and the composition of keywords in nearly all clusters varies over the said time span. Four indicators have been defined on the basis of fluctuating keyword composition within clusters. The name given to these four indicators are stability index, integrated visibility index, momentary visibility index and potency index respectively. These indicators hold different values for different clusters. The value ranges of them are categorized in five groups, viz. very high, high, medium, low and very low. A new quantitative subject access tool has been proposed on the basis of these indicators, which can predict the probable new and obsolete keywords in any subject domain. The name given to this new tool is keysaurus, i.e. keyword-based-thesaurus

An analytical model for investigation of some characteristics of the keywords of the subject Fermi Liquid: a case study

This paper is based on an analytical study of modes of occurrence of keywords devoted to the subject Fermi Liquid, which is a specific domain under the broad area of condensed matter physics. Eight quantitative indicators have been defined and developed here on the basis of some parameters associated with keywords and keyword clusters. At least three keywords with a common phrase have been defined as a keyword cluster in this study. The numerical values of the indicators have been calculated for 2562 keyword-clusters, 916 keyword-couples and 4329 single keywords in all, though only top 20 keywords/keyword clusters are selected in decreasing order of numerical values of each indicator for presenting in this paper. The keywords were extracted from titles and abstracts of 6371 research articles devoted to the subject Fermi Liquid, which were collected from the bibliographic database of INSPEC and COMPENDEX, over the time span of twenty years (1985-2004). In total, 67 keywords/keyword clusters are presented here, which appeared 160 times within top 20 ranks (8*20=160) against eight indicators. A keyword cluster consists of at least three keywords and 665 keywords as studied here. The keyword-couples consist of two keywords only. There is no question of forming any cluster by the single keywords. The variations of numerical values of all indicators with the rank of keyword/keyword clusters are shown graphically. The mathematical functions followed by each variational pattern are also discussed
